Along with all other districts in California, Del Norte Unified School District is in the first year of LCAP implementation. During the 2013-14 academic year the district LCAP Coordination team (Sean Smith, Lisa Howard, Theresa Slayton, and Steve Godla) conducted 41 Stakeholder group meetings with over 280 people participating, surveyed 1763 individuals and helped facilitate two Community wide BHC meetings (over 500 participants in the 2 meetings). The two highest priorities from the stakeholder input sessions were to: 1) increase student achievement, and 2) Maintain a positive school climate. The LCAP process statewide required that districts specifically address how the educational outcomes of English Learners, Foster Youth and Low Income students will be addressed.
Specific Student Achievement LCAP expenditures to address these priorities include:
Hiring an additional teacher at Smith River to reduce Combo Classes for English LearnersHiring a 50% English Language Development Teacher/Intervention Teacher at Crescent Elk Middle School
Hire an additional 1.2 Music Teacher
Hiring a ½ time Bilingual Assistant
Hiring a Foster Liaison
Hiring a Preschool Teacher and two Preschool Instructional Assistants.
Increase Summer School funding
Purchase high interest and bilingual library materials
Purchase College and Career online program
Fund Instructional Strategies Professional Development for teachers and administrators.
Provide ESL training for Parents/Guardians
Increased CTE offerings
Specific School Climate LCAP expenditures include:
Hire an additional Maintenance staff employeeFund the PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) process
Fund Restorative Justice training for teachers
Attendance Incentives for school sites and students
Fund Parent Education Nights
Increase Parent Involvement funds
